Permanent win in Selima Oasis at Very Hard
My concern is not how to win but how NOT to win. The requirements are easy to reach. I have seen in the downloads a Selima in 26 months by Cartouche Bee at Hard, and I calculated that, for once, I could probably even do better. My only way to build the city I want is not to reach the Kingdom Rating (KR) of 55.
I wanted to download some files to assess how frequent are the gifts of KR points. The network was poor so I got only Brugle’s file. Some surprises, as Brugle says:
- the road to Kerma is cut twice in a decade, so luxuries to be stockpiled.
- a recurrent request from Pharaoh, if ignored, would allow my KR to drop from time to time.
- several invasions, most likely rather benign as the enemy is the weak Libyan
So what is my point?
Selima Oasis is a very young game in History, starting in 2650 BC; the player is just learning some new features. However, you can already reach the common manor status as you are granted luxuries and two types of food. It is a game where the player can deal with serious economics.
My objectives therefore are:
- a big block of manors fed with fish
- a block of fancy residences fed with peas
- maximizing the exports
- maximizing the income in taxes
- getting a decent army
- a fast achievement of my objectives
The result would not be a “score” in itself but rather a final average profit per year.
KINGDOM RATING POINTS
Ignoring most of the scenario, my strategy is so to LOSE Kingdom rating points by being voluntarily overindebted. It is manageable doing good business anyway.
I start at 40 as always at Very Hard, am indebted at the end of the first year when it drops to 36. Then I ignore the first deadline for the luxury request and it drops to 33. Overindebted, it drops again to 18. I even enter the second year with a negative balance, it drops to 12. Now I am OK.
I intend to keep this KR of 12 somehow permanently. However I am surprised: the gifts of points are always low: 1 to 3 points, but I lose 15 points for not fulfilling the delayed request for luxuries. My KR drops to 0. I have to reload two months before and send a medium gift to Pharaoh. I end up with a KR of 4 only. Then, as I am giving myself no salary however I have a mansion, I gain 1 point every year.
While my city is getting achieved, around year 6, I quickly reach a KR of 50. I can so win at any time sending a lavish gift. When I come too close to 55, I offer myself a (useless) salary of 100 debens in December, Pharaoh gets annoyed and I lose some 8 points.
THE SCENARIO
I have various options to spend my money during the two first years, the chosen one eventually is to stockpile ebony from Kerma.
During the first year, I export for more than 13,300 debens of wood, beer and papyrus and 26,500 during the second year. Then I will export between 20 and 22,000 debens per year as I am using more and more of the exportable items papyrus and beer. Once again, I live under a permanent trade blessing from Ra.
Then I simply assess that I can live permanently in this city while winning at any time.
I eventually decide to stop when the scores looks nice at 100,000 after 16 years, but my initial objectives were completed in 8 years and a score of 75,000.
I am getting more and more used to large blocks: my block of 31 common manors never faced any accident of any kind.
Please note that the supposedly recurrent request for luxuries vanished after the second one, as often.
