Bubastis wasn't the easiest city I played. I started out with two housing blocks. One near the shore and reed fields, where I started to gather reeds and found out I couldn't export papyrus. The other was near the main forest, where I started on the wood for export to Iken. A tower was added to keep the hippos at bay. Next to the shore village, I added grain and cattle farms and started importing copper from Sawu for weapons trade with Iken. This was a stupid idea as the gain on copper to weaopns is only about 35Db per item...
I went into debt a couple of times and stopped the arms trade. I added a third block halfway between the existing two and put down the Temple complex to form the base of a palace block, with it's own small industrial sector.
Meanwhile I got a fort each of archers and infantry and started making and distributing pottery. Flax farms and linen industry was setup and I started export to Heh (still exporting weapons...)
A small colony, mainly for manning ferries and fisheries was started on the small peninsula.
I still kept going in and out of debt, stopped selling arms! built some transports to carry academy trained troops off to a request for help from Gaza from which they returned victorious. This opened another source of luxury items. Beer was imported for a short while, and got my palace block up to residence level. A fourth housing block was added and my city was growing.
More docks and another fort were added. By now I was making money steadily and importing beer and had most of the original housing up to residence level. I had started importing granite from Sawu, which came slow and wondered how to get more. Eventually I realised Waset is exporting too and they exported not 15 but 40 blocks a year. By now I had 5 stable palaces, 2 instable ones and a manor. The last remaining bank of the river was colonised for grain/flax farms and linen industry.
The eight palaces and two manors have me rolling in dough, 36k from taxes each year. Export adds another 10k. The rest of the housing is up to the various residence levels. I spend some time getting enough libraries and a few more temples for a perfect culture rating.
The first obelisk goes up without a hitch next to the palace complex, as does the second (which I postpone till I had the ratings up, by removing the masons).
I realise I end up being quite happy with this city, most of the troubles were caused by weapons export and a too late opening of the Waset trade route. Without these I would definitely have been able to do this city somewhat quicker.
The save is made just before the last obelisk is finished.
