The Mission:
This scenario is a savegame, so you have to put it in the 'Savefamilyname'-folder.
The mission is peaceful, no invasions but requests for troops (water and land). All buildings enabled. It's a trading-, transport- and citybuilding-challenge.
Map: huge area, normal climate, outlook a matter of taste
Victory: Culture 80, Prosperity 100, Kingdom 100, Population 15000
Palatial estates: 48 (Pharaoh calculation), 12 real buildings
Monuments: 1 Mausoleum, 2 medium brickcore pyramids, plenty of burial gifts (rating 43)
Gaming time needed: quite long (maybe 50 - 100 years?)
Difficulty: 'normal' for the average player, 'hard' doable for good players, 'very hard' no idea, 'easy' and 'very easy' quite senseless
The Story:
My Dear,
Remember your childhood! Your parents had been the Keeper of the house of the family of Mentuhotep, Nomarches of Perwadjwt, the gate to the Mediterranean Sea. When your father had died by that tragical accident you had been still a baby. The generous Nomarche did know the strong economical talent of your mother so she became the Keeper of the house, and you became a playing companion of his son. With the same economical talent as your mother had, you have got an excellent education. You have been in foreign countries. You know everything about production techniques and trade. And know you get the chance of your life!
After some struggle around the throne, your playing companion has become the new Pharaoh. And for sure he is beginning a new dynasty with stability and prosperity all over Egypt. But you are very astonished, when you get the invitation, not the order, to meet the new Pharaoh in his new capital, his hometown Perwadjwt. Mentuhotep I has sent his guard to the harbour to bring you to his palace safely. The audience starts at once:
"My friend, I'm planning to build up a new trading centre just south of the delta to connect Lower and Upper Egypt in an extraordinary, thriving city, an example of prosperity, culture and power for the whole world. I'm knowing nobody else better than you, who can bring my dreams to reality. Although I cannot put you into any rank, I'll protect you as the sovereign of that piece of land, even when the most nobles or wealthy scribes will live there. All together a minimum of 15000 inhabitants I'm requesting.
I'll give you 10000 Deben for the start. If this isn't sufficient, feel free to ask for more, although I'm expecting plenty of tributes over the time. Competition will be hard, so you must be aware of an interest rate of 20%. Your knowledge and connections will allow you to start trade routes even with the furthest nations. As the proof of your success you must have a dozen of palatial estates in your city. Don't forget our culture! With all those foreign influences I'm expecting an 80, not more.
Always reminding our home of our youth, you have to chose Bast as your patron. All other gods can be worshipped, too, except of Ra, who is the god of the Pharaoh here in the capital. As I've started a new dynasty you are allowed to give your title to your children as well for a continuous progress in your city, name it as you like. You are allowed to build a mausoleum for your family, and you have to build two medium pyramids for the nobles in your city. Use the modern brick core construction type. Provide these pyramids with plenty of burial gifts, linen, wood, papyrus, luxury goods and a strong core of granite to show the wealthiness even in the afterlife.
Although we live in peace now, because the power of Egypt is accepted in the world, I'll ask you for some troops, water- or landborn, if necessary. This should not be a problem for such a wealthy city.
Your duty is done, when all over Egypt you are the most appreciated governor. Start at once and may the gods be with you."
When you arrive in your new city you find nothing except a huge area. But there are fishes in the Nile as well as some antelopes. You can find a small amount of gold for mining, fertile land for meadow farming and floodplains, but you'll be able to grow chickpeas only. In the swamps you find plenty of reeds, some valuable wood, and you can build clay pits.
As expected in a virgin piece of land, there are no trade routes at all. You must produce some goods and send them to other cities to proof the quality, before they will start trading with you. But be assured that you'll never have a third chance to fulfil a request in time. Later your trading cities will demand some bargains to proof your competitiveness. Some goods will be rare, so the prices will increase over time, some goods are overproduced and the prices will decrease.
It's not easy to raise kingdom rating by trading purposes only. You'll need plenty of time.
