The middle Road
It is a time of Great prosperety and peace in the Empire. The Pharaoh had a dream during the festivites, to build the biggest Monument ever known to mankind. This is not good news for you;
As his most trusted adviser, you are being sent to the middle road, to create a city that shall trive and
support the Pharaoh in this colossus event. You are to provide him with your extra money gained from exports, and his requests will grow bigger constantly year after year as his monetary needs for this monument will continue to grow.
You will not be collecting taxes either. All taxes from your city will be redirected to support the most needy
subjects of the empire, during this extraordinary project.
Fortunatly you will have access to an abundant variety of recources to trade to other cities.
It will be hard to prosper, and you must continue to grow with each step to keep up with the requests. but the pharoah is counting on you,
and he will try to send you occasional gifts whenever
he has to spare;
He is also wanting you to give the example of what he is bringing up in the capital, so you are expected to build a small-scale
monument as a testimony to traders, emigrants, and people who live too far away from the capital city.
A testimony of yourself will stand in the city too.
The Pharaoh is counting on your support;
This is your chance to prove yourself to him; good luck!!
You may have to play this scenario more than once to win it. Expand constantly, finding a way to create the deben to open trade routes; You may want to sell the materials needed to build your own monument when times get bad. Grow to quickly and you will not have the deben to keep up with requests. The Pharaoh is going to squeeze you out of every last extra deben you have. You will not be able to collect tax. Particular attention is advised to trade routes and commerce;
A couple trade routes will open after a few years; You can supply other cities at their request with additional goods for a bonus;
Sparingly gifts of raw materials and later on finished goods. On rare occasions unexpected events.
The great project of the pharaoh is scheduled to finish in 1979. He will ask you one last extra effort for a great festivity;
feedback and ways to improve this scenario are welcome! |

Very well done. The requests are harsh but doable, the map leaves plenty of opportunity to build your own city, but you're better off paying attention to where the recourses are on the map.
Balance: 3
I played it on hard and finished in 417 months. If you choose the trade routes wisely, it's easy to earn enough money fast enough, and become rich enough to never worry about money in a few years.

Nicely done. There surely went some thinking into this scenario!

Thank you again Burt for reviewing this scenario; these last 2 where part of 4 scenarios i had originally created last november; This spring i found the pharaoh heaven, and decided to work more and them and then post them;
I am wondering maybe you could help me with creating a proper text in the beginning, that goes in the in-game instructions; i don' t know how to do this; Also testing intensevly scenario nr. 3 ; There seem to be quite a few bugs in it; let me know if you want to test it at this stage so we can improve it toghether :) |

Well done!!
I did not know that this website existed or that people were developping new scenarios. This is really good!!! I'll play yours and then I'll post my review.
I've also been working on a new and challenging scenario. It will not be a scenario for beginners. Maybe I'll post that tomorrow or after tomorrow.
Oh! Sorry about my English. I'm Brazilian and I needed to use the Google translator :P |

Plays ok. The hippos and no tax is a nasty challenge though.
Balance: 3
Trade routes are quite expensive to open, so there is some balance there.
Creativity: 3
Nothing I haven't seen/played before. Not boring and too predictable either.
Map Design: 4
Bridge friendly and nicely laid out.
Story/Instructions: 4
The description here is a bit too long, but ok.
Thanks for uploading, nice scenario.

This map is good. Having no tax is such a challenge as i love to put my people to elite class as soon as possible. I failed twice before change my method to rely on poor class labour and export everything.
Waiting for a low-cost trade route and relying on beer and pottery for early sale then linen and papyrus in the middle. I somehow finish in the third attempt. |
