This is inspired by GovernorSimulus' maximum population quest. but instead of fitting as many people in a map, I'll focus on getting 12k population in Old Kingdom period.

My personal rules in this quest will be:
* Very hard difficulty
* 12,000 population
* 100 prosperity rating
* All houses are residences or better
* All roads are connected, optional for entertainment venue
* All schools, libraries, mortuaries and senet houses are well supplied.
* Personal funds only used for kingdom rating
* Smooth population census - no aging problem
* Final city should runs with minimal intervention

There are a total of 30 spacious manors, 7 fancy rasidences and 97 spacious residences. By far my favourite map because this quest is really a challenge of space efficiency and Buhen is anything but spacious.

Problem #1: Food for 12,000

My initial concern is food. Floodplain is small, inundation is bad, meadow fertility is low and only two flocks of ostriches. There's hardly enough food for a city of 12,000.

Playing around with different arrangement, I managed to get 13,744 chickpeas and 3440 barley from 27 meadow farms. At their worst, 12 irrigated floodplain farms would yield about 2,300 chickpeas when a series of failed inundations hit.

There are two flocks of ostriches near each other, so it is likely that I can get close to the maximum of 15,400 game meats.

In addition, Meidum and Abu each sells 2,500 grain a year. Enkomi sells 1,500 fish a year. Men-nefer could sell another 2,500 chickpeas if the stock running low.

In short, the food I can gather are
15,400 game meat
16,044 chickpeas with 2,500 extra from import
5,000 grain
1,500 fish

40,444 food, enough to support 12,648 population theoretically. So the quest continued.

Problem #2: Space efficiency

When I started building Buhen, I decided to use three fixed and two open ended housing blocks that would let me adjust the amount of spacious manor and the housing level of residence according to available space and city desirability. It should also allow me to shuffle around the type of food consumed in each block.

It worked out nicely for me.

I found that spacious residence is the most space efficient housing level for this particular housing block. Anything higher, the density drops due to the desirability requirement.

Housing and annual food consumption of each block are listed below:
North : 51 spacious residences consuming 6120 chickpeas/game meat
Centre: 37 spacious residences consuming 4440 chickpeas/game meat
Southeast: 18 spacious manors consuming 2808 chickpeas/game meat
Southwest: 9 spacious residences consuming 1080 fish/game meat
Northwest: 12 spacious manors & 7 fancy residences consuming 2796 grain/chickpeas

Checking for sustainability, annual food consumption in the final city is
14,448 game meat
16,164 chickpeas
2796 grain
1080 fish

Chickpeas is consumed a little more than planned but the small difference can be easily replenished with better inundation.
