This is inspired by GovernorSimulus' maximum population quest. but instead of fitting as many people in a map, I'll focus on getting 12k population in Old Kingdom period.
My personal rules on this quest will be:
* Very hard difficulty
* 12,000 population
* 100 prosperity rating
* All houses are residences or better
* All roads are connected, optional for entertainment venue
* All schools, libraries, mortuaries and senet houses are well supplied.
* Personal funds only used for kingdom rating
* Smooth population census - no aging problem
* Final city should runs with minimal intervention
This city has 16 stately manors, 13 fancy residences and 105 spacious residences. Djedu is not an difficult map, so I also pushed the culture rating to 70, the highest possible without zoo.
Problem #1: Find a way to service 4,800 citizen with a single mortuary
This is solved using walker behavior - Use a loop long enough to house 4,800 citizens but short enough to let the embalmer loop around frequently. After several trial runs, I settled with an 80 squares loop that can fit 16 stately manors and 34 spacious residences. 4,840 citizens, done.
Problem #2: Distribute goods across the water
The goods distribution poses a problem here because ferry capacity is low with such wide water. Two options for me. Cut down the number of passangers and/or add more ferry docks. I designed a food distribution system that can prevent the food carts from crossing the river multiple times. Then, I made sure bazaar ladies use the ferry to get food but not pottery/beer, because they often carry more food than the granary cart but less everything else than the storage yard cart. I also kept all the goods production, their raw material and the docks on the west land mass. Exported excess pottery and beer so that the nearest storage yard always has room for more. Lastly, gave up brickwork and cattle ranch to get rid of the straw carts. In the end, all these seems to do enough to free up the ferry, so I didn't use isolate entertainment venue or add another ferry dock.
