Era/Kingdom: New Kingdom
Score: 22216
Difficulty: Very Hard
Population: 11580
Culture rating: 60
Prosperity rating: 100
Monument rating: 33
Kingdom rating: 99
Minimap:
Itjtawy just on one side of the river.

- Very Hard, no bailout/debt/personal funds
- No long walks (just to be different!)
- All Fancy Residence and Manors
- 100% Mortuary coverage
- all roads connected (in the final city)

Building on just the West side meant no papyrus industry, so beer, bricks and linen were exported.

Everybody ate grain (mainly from meadow farms for the extra straw), with meat, lettuce and pomegranates providing 2nd & often 3rd foods.

No god blessings were received up until the completion of the pyramids (with all Victory conditions achieved) at 187 months. After that I cranked the festivals to Bast and Osiris to get the last houses upgraded. I think it would have taken a very long time without blessings, given that the city can only just feed itself, and a series of bad floods would be a disaster.

The 2-houses deep staggered housing block I used was very efficient in terms of space and workers but the 2nd row of houses get poor health/police/fire/bazaar coverage. It wasn't as bad as I thought it might be though, and it had the bonus that most of the Itjtawy plague events went nowhere because the house they started in was on the outside of the block and the plague carrier walked into industrial areas :)

The final city should be stable for a long time, able to handle a 27% workforce which with the poor city health in Itjtawy might work out. Plagues can occur randomly though and it would probably need regular festivals to Osiris and Bast, or at least better storage of any food surpluses.

2 saves attached, first from the pyramids finishing, and 2nd the final city with all houses upgraded.

Sajuuk Nice! However, where did you get papyrus from? I'm assuming imports from Men-nefer.

Yep, Men-nefer sells 2500 papyrus. The 4 schools and 1 library use 1980-2640 papyrus each year (on Very Hard). It's distributed by 3 Store Yards which have no other cart-pusher orders (except for 1 of the yards which may also take beer to the Senet House occasionally).

On average there's enough papyrus but some years there might be more used than imported. Also, the 3 yards aren't particularly close, so the schools & library run out of papyrus regularly. But I doubt it would ever cause a loss of access to education.

Brugle gazzaj,
Your estimates of papyrus consumption depend on a teacher or librarian making 9 to 12 trips per year. It appears to me that if the schools and libraries were kept supplied with papyrus, the librarian and 3 of the teachers would make 9.6 trips per year and 1 of the teachers would make almost 10 trips per year, for an average papyrus consumption of about 2127 papyrus per year. In any year, papyrus consumption should never reach Men-nefer's quota. Of course, as you said, your schools and libraries regularly lack enough papyrus to function, so the actual consumption of papyrus is lower.

Thanks Brugle, I've always used the numbers from the "Consumption of Food and Goods" thread without reading all the notes at the bottom, so it's good to find out that 12 walkers/year is playing it very safe (I thought that the average of the min/max figures would be the average, while it's actually much closer to the min figure).

This was the first time I had supplied papyrus in any sizeable quantity using only store yards and it shows that the yards need to be much closer than I had them (though if cart-pushers walk to faraway buildings, a lot more store yards might be needed). It could be quite a challenge to keep a lot of spread-out buildings stocked without papyrus makers.
Brugle Walk frequencies depend on the layout. In your West Itjtawy (with housing loops that are longer than I prefer at Very Hard difficulty) the librarian and teachers take less than 10 walks per year, but at least 2 of the librarians in my Bubastis take over 11 walks per year. The embalmer in my Dakhla Oasis takes over 12 walks per year.
