Cleo CD size
hile poking through the official Pharaoh forums, I came upon the following little tidbit posted by Itchy about the size of Cleo CDs:

Cleo is manufactured on an oversized CD (700 MB vs. the older 650 MB that was common for years). Very, very old CD-ROM drives may have problems reading the CD.

Update: Thanks to User Maat for reminding me that the Pharaoh CD is also over 650MB in size, so you shouldn't have too many problems with Cleo if Pharaoh worked fine.

Well, slap me with a wet fish...
f this news update is a couple of days too late. Oh well, better late than never, eh ?

Week 4's Pharaolympics event is now up and available for download. Here's a little bit about it:

Pharaolympics are slowly coming to a close. Today we present you the last mission of these Games, Bury a Hero. Before we look at the mission closely, I would like to inform you, that we are opening another thread soon, called quite selfexplanatory "Resolving ties in overall ranking". Also, let me remind you that the submission deadline for this one mission has been extended over the weekend - please send it in before Sunday midnight 23rd July. The other missions are still due on Friday 21st July, as announced.

The official CBM thread for Bury a Hero can be found here. Don't forget that tomorrow is the deadline for all other Pharaolympics missions .

More Pharaolympics news
ere's a first, I'm at a loss for words...

I just browsed over to the results of the Hammanat event and Erik Hjortsberg managed to fit a massive 20,308 people into the rounds of a single watercarrier.
Truly impressive.

Akhen finished first in the Novice class with 9,289 people.

This mission's results show a series of minimaps displaying the layout used by the winners and it seems a windmill layout is most effective for this kind of challenge.
For a discussion of the event look here.

Naturally, the scorboards have been updated, for ExpertTomek, Max and Plebus are at the top of the leaderboard. For the Novice class the players are a lot closer, Merepatra, dancing and bllah are followed by Akhen, only 10 points removed from the leader.

And remember, there are still five more events to be scored.

Pharaolympics Update
ell, the last leg of the Pharaolympics started early this morning with the release of the Week 4 events. Or should I say, event, as there is only one event scheduled for this week.
Bury a hero is speed contest where you will have to build a pyramid and dispatch the gravegoods in the shortest time possible. Beware though, there's more to this mission than meets they eye.

Tonight, midnight, is the dead-line for your submissions in the Hammanat event, so be sure to check your submission thoroughly before uploading it.

All other events, with the exception of Bury a hero are due next week.

A quick look at the scoreboard tells me Tomek, Max and JWorth are leading the Expert class, whilst Merepatra, dancing and Pounce the Unfortunate lead the Novice class.
Still, there's many a point yet to be earned.

Cleopatra Out!
hanks to Itchy for letting us know that Cleopatra has hit some stores in the US.

As I mention in that thread, I won't have any time over the next month to do any walkthroughs for Cleo (packing and getting things ready for going on holiday, during which I'll have no Net access) so, if any of you out there are just playing through Cleo and feel like writing some walkthroughs for the missions you've completed, then feel free to do so . Please send any such walkthroughs to Angel Jayhawk during my absence (July 29th - August 16th).

Bits and pieces...
hile the Pharaolympics seem to have takenover most of our lives, there are still a few people wandering around in the Senet house.
So what are they doing there?

Well, one of the subjects of the moment seems to be books, especially those concerning the adventures of Harry Potter. Several threads have sprung up abou this particular topic, here's one.

Another topic is music, and I have to admit it's easier listening to music while playing Pharaoh, than it is to read a book.

The Game Help forum is once again mesmerised by housing blocks.

    Games Domain Cleo Preview
ames Domain has posted a preview of Cleopatra, which will hit stores in the US next week. Here's a little snippet:

If you enjoy city building and/or God games, and don't already own Pharaoh then I recommend you give it a try. As for the expansion, if it delivers the things it promises it will enhance an already impressive game still further. I'll be buying it as a matter of course, as I'm sure many other fans will.

    Tunel event update
or those of you that are competing in the Tunel event of the Pharaolympics, here's a message courtesy of the Competition Board.

ATTENTION! Completion Criteria has been changed. Required Kingdom rating is only 60, and you can submit until July 21.
These change are made because some unplanned for flood failures were experienced, that made the event harder than it was intended to be.

To read more about this, please check this link

he Pharaolympics Competition Committee has started week 3 of the competition:

Wadi Hassan is an Open event for both Novices and Experts. Be sure to download the correct map, they are just a bit different. So far, no one has gotten the wrong map, and I want to thank all of you on being so careful with naming your files. It has made the evaluation process go much smoother.... we are doing our best to keep up with the entries. Wadi Hassan is a 2-week event and will be due July 21.

You can read more right here. Oh, and don't forget that Revenge and Palatial Estates are due today, by midnight in your time zone .

    Cleopatra out on July 14th
    ere's something I spotted over on GA-Strategy:

Impressions Games and Sierra Studios today announced that development of Pharaoh Official Expansion: Cleopatra has been completed and that the game is due to ship to stores in the U.S. on July 14th. The Cleopatra expansion includes four new campaigns for their strategic city-building game Pharaoh, and allows gamers to experience the final years of ancient Egyptian history through 15 totally new scenarios. It is being developed for Impressions Games by Maryland-based Breakaway Games, who most recently developed Sid Meier's Antietam!

    Oops
erroneously states yesterday that Tunel is due for the end of this week. As the Competition Board and one or more players were kind enough to remind me...it's not.

The Palatial Estates event is the Week 2 event due for this week.

    Sorry for the inconveniences...
